Stevens Point– The Central Wisconsin Impact 11u Baseball team traveled to Brookfield on the weekend of July 11-13 to complete in the Bigler Invitational Baseball Tournament. In the end it was the Impact taking home first place to run its current winning streak to 13 games.

Game one of the tournament opened up on Saturday morning against the Merton Mavericks. The Impact started out strong with three shutout innings from Isaac Cychosz. Tyler Beyer then took the hill but the Merton bats had started to come alive with seeing-eye singles and bloopers over the infielders’ heads. In the sixth, with the game on the line, the Merton hitters came through with three runs to tie up the game six to six. The game went to extra innings and in the top of the seventh inning, and that’s when the Impact bats exploded, led by Logan Schulfer who was 4-4 on the day with three doubles. Five runs came across in the extra frame and that amount was insurmountable, leaving the Impact with an 11-7 victory. Jared Mountin received the win on the hill for the Impact.

On Saturday night, the Impact team returned to action taking on the Lake County Lightning select travel baseball from Illinois. The eight hour layoff did not cool down the Impact bats. Approaching the plate with a great aggressive mindset, the Impact pounded out 13 runs in the game again led by a hot hitting Logan Schulfer who was 4-4 at the dish. Isaac Cychosz got the win on the mound for the Impact who won on a 13-1 mercy rule victory.

The Impact took to the field again on Sunday afternoon against the Cedarburg Mercs to finish up pool play, knowing that they had already secured a place in the championship game later that evening. The team came out playing loose and refreshed and the 13-1 final in four innings showed why this is one of the elite teams in the state. The team turned two double plays in the game. The win on the mound went to Logan Schulfer who had help from Tanner Schude, Trey Zagrzebski and Nathan Konkol.

The Impact moved on Sunday evening to play the Lincoln Way Blue Demons coached by former two time World Series winner, All-Star game participant, and Olympic bronze medal winner Braden Looper. While the team thought it was cool to meet a former professional baseball player, the Impact went out right away to show why they were the best team at the tournament. The Impact started out right away shutting down the Demons’ offense in the top of the first with Marcus Jaworski on the mound. The team won the inning by putting up three right away to set the tone for the game. Marcus continued to pitch well and gave the team three scoreless innings. After three innings complete the score was 8-0 in favor of the Impact. In the top of the 4th, Tyler Beyer came on for an inning of relief work and threw a perfect frame. The players, knowing that two runs were needed to secure the championship game, came out bats blazing and recorded two runs to secure the mercy rule victory 10-0 after four innings.

When the dust had settled, the Impact had outscored opponents on the weekend 47-9. The team defense was outstanding and the offense was great with everyone having quality at-bats.

Isaac Cychosz led the way on the mound for the weekend pitching 6 scoreless innings and picking up one win. Jared Mountin, Logan Schulfer, and Marcus Jaworski also picked up wins on the mound.

Logan Schulfer led the Impact offensively going 16-16 on the weekend.

The Central Wisconsin Impact team is now 22-2 on the season with tournament championships at the Gameday USA Wisconsin State Championships, the Bigler Invite Tournament, the Columbus Renegades Tournament, and the Greenville Griffins tournament. The team also has a second place finish at the Wisconsin Rockhounds tournament in Milwaukee. The team also finished 2-1 at the Grand Chute 12u tournament but didn’t advance on tiebreaker rules.

The Impact team will finish up its traveling season at Sussex – Hamilton on July 25-27.
